Background

Thomson provides the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industries with the services, systems and technologies they need to optimize their performance in a changing technology environment for video and imaging.

Thomson’s customers are in Media & Entertainment: content creators (movie studios, broadcasters, game developers, advertisers, etc.), content distributors (broadcasters, network operators, Internet Service Providers, retailers, etc.) and users of video technology.

Over the next two years, the Group will (i) broaden its offering to existing Media & Entertainment clients and expand its client base; (ii) enhance its technology intensity, raising its profile in technology-related debates and industry choices; (iii) position itself in electronic content distribution, and (iv) become a leader in Internet Protocol access and home networking devices and solutions.

Thomson operates in 30 countries and is active on growing markets in North America, Europe and Asia.

Listed on the Paris and New York stock exchanges, Thomson shares are included in the CAC 40 share price index of leading French companies.


Thomson: Main Activities

The Group intends to become the preferred partner worldwide to the media and entertainment industries. Thomson is organized in three Strategic Business Units (SBUs), or divisions, each of which holds major market positions:

Services

The Services division provides end-to-end management of business-critical services (physical media, electronic media, network operations).
  • No. 1 worldwide in physical media services
  • No. 1 worldwide in out-of-home advertising services (Screenvision)
  • No. 2 worldwide in post-production services

Systems & Equipment

The Systems & Equipment division provides video-focused systems and equipment (Grass Valley, Access Platforms & Gateways, Connectivity) and intervenes at both ends of network distribution, interfacing at one end with content makers and at the other with network operators, retailers and end-customers.

    Leader in accessories, audio-video, mp3 players and residential telephony products

The Technology division develops and monetizes technology (research, licensing, silicon solutions, software and technology solutions), providing third-party licensing and anticipating future technology standards.
